Knowledge Centre for open youth work (KC)- A regional cooperative effort for the evaluation and development of methods and leadership in youth activity programs.
KC works with research and development projects to increase the competency in this sector, especially concerning knowledge based on academic research. Building networks and contributing to the development of recreational programs (i.e. youth clubs) and the youth work profession is the focus of the work done at KC.
The main idea is to utilize and structure the knowledge held by active youth workers as well as incorporating research done in the field of youth recreation. The ultimate goal is to put together effective systems for development, documentation and evaluation of implemented programs.
KC is located at Skarpnäcks Folk High School which is also the formal employer of the coordinator/research leader and the receiver of possible project funding. Each participating municipality pays a proportionally based membership fee and holds a seat on the board guaranteeing the opportunity to influence the direction of the development of the centre.
Participating parties at KC is Lidingö City District, Nynäshamn Municipality, Tyresö Municipality, Solna City District, Upplands Väsby Municipality, Haninge Municipality, Ekerö Municipality, Täby Municipality, Värmdö Municipality and Skarpnäcks Folk High School all of which are located in the Greater Stockholm area.
